Hi I'm Jemma

Hi, I'm Jemma. I'm a British Architect and Illustrator who moved to Toronto, Canada, at the start of 2025. Since moving, I have been documenting my time in the city through a series of illustrative prints. Highlighting so of my favourite places, food and moments in the city.

I have been sharing the process on my social media. This has led me to create 'Toonie Stamps', an interactive art hunt that lets people access my art and explore the best bits of Toronto. Through a series of art vending machines and one-off locations, people are able to access my art and engage with the city of Toronto

The Concept

At the start of 2025, I moved from the UK to Toronto, Canada. Before moving, I decided I wanted to document my time in Canada through some sort of creative medium. Stamps have always interested me, these little nodes of place and time. So I have used them are the canvas for this series of illustrations. I started sketching out stamps of different places I found throughout the city.  The project documents my expierence of Toronto's food, places, and events that have shaped my time in the city as a newcomer. Each stamp is a piece of this ongoing story.

Project Mission

I started sharing my illustrations on social media and gained significant interest and support. Many people asked if they could buy my prints, which was lovely. Selling my work as an 'artist' was new to me, and I wanted to develop a way for people to not only invest in my art but also invest in the journey and story of the stamp series. I looked into different ways people could access my work, leading to the development of art dispensers (made from converted chewing gum vending machines). These machines can be found across Toronto

The Name

The project name is inspired by its overall mission. When developing how I wanted this project to evolve, one of my key focuses was to make my art accessible at an affordable price point. I believe art is for everyone, but the price of buying art often makes it in accessible for most people. While I very much feel people should be paid their worth for the art they produce, this project aims to find a medium and scale that finally work for me and an artist, while staying within the average person's budget. The project name is inspired by the price point of my tiny prints.
